Cellular Intelligence / Why Can't We Behave More Like Cells?
There has been a buzz lately about Cellular Intelligence. Dr Oz mentions cellular intelligence of the body (gut instinct) in a few of his shows. This is an intriguing concept! I searched the Internet and found some scientific research and pretty complex articles with abstracts, etc. Apparently, the scientists can make amoebas from pond scum learn and jump sorta' speak. I'm not a scientist so the details made my head spin. Although, still intriguing.
Who can explain this concept in layman's terms?
Then, I came across Dr. Deepak Chopra's CD set, The Book of Secrets, Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of your Life. Dr. Deepak Chopra’s insights are interesting because he has been exposed to Eastern and Western cultures, religions, philosophies along with obtaining a degree in medicine. He was Chief of Staff of the now Boston Regional Medical Center in Stoneham, Massachusetts. His father was a cardiac surgeon who researched medical cases right up to the day before he died at age 81. Dr. Deepak Chopra articulates his ideas so well. Below is just a small part of what he has to say on this CD set.
Here is what I learned about our behavior verses behavior of cells. Why can’t we be more like cells?
First, Dr. Deepak Chopra says cells have been out thinking us for millions of years. Their wisdom is more ancient than cortical wisdom. We, like cells want to grow, expand, and create. We, like cells have a higher purpose. Older still, is the cosmic wisdom and cells’ behavior most models this cosmic wisdom. Cells have no problem participating in life. They are in communion with life.
Dr. Deepak Chopra talks about the human brain. We have a new brain the cerebral cortex which has evolved quickly and gotten much larger in the last few millennial. We still have the old primitive brain. The part of the brain that is instinctive and emotional. It doesn't have the capability to read or write, but can sense when something is wrong. This part of the brain feels. It may guide the flight or flea decision. It was especially important for survival of early man who was living in cave with several others, hunting animals, fending off hostile tribes, and such.
Dr. Deepak identifies traits of the body’s wisdom.
CELLS' BEHAVIOR - CELLS DO NOT:
PRACTICE SELFISHNESS - They will die to protect the organism.
REFUSE TO COMMUNICATE OR WITHDRAW
GO IT ALONE / ISOLATE
EXCLUDE ONE ANOTHER - They depend on each other - They are equally important. there are no judgments or prejudices.
GET CAUGHT UP IN RIGID HABITS AND CLING TO OLD BEHAVIOR OR THE OBSOLETE – Cells adapt from moment to moment. A good example is brain cells can think new thoughts and our digestive system cells can digest foods never eaten before.
PRACTICE OBSESSIVE OVER ACTIVITY
PRACTICE AGGRESSIVENESS
SECOND GUESS - They know instinctively, what they need to do.
FORCE, STRUGGLE, OR TRY TO CONTROL
PRACTICE EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION - Cells store about three seconds of food and oxygen for energy - they trust they will be provided for.
LIVE AS OUTCASTS
HOARD - Cells have a total commitment to giving. This supports the integrity of all the cells and make receiving automatic.
WITHHOLD ANYTHING FROM THEIR OFFSPRING. Genetic code, knowledge, and talents are passed down. There is no generation gap here.
"The very behaviors that would kill our bodies in a day have not been renounced by us a people."
The cells have an almost spiritual pack. They return to God, what is God’s.
As with anything, you can punch holes in this theology. It is a very complicated subject, but I like the message anyway and hope you do too!
