Regarding MLM. What is an MLM? This acronym stands for Multi Level Marketing. Mary Kay, Avon, and Tupperware are examples of multi level marketing businesses. They are above board and legit. Shaklee is also a legitimate multi level marketing company. Shaklee was listed on the Fortune 500 at one time and has been around for 50+ years!

MLM was mentioned in the book “Why We Want You to be Rich, Two Men, One Message” by Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki in 2006. This is a book written by a millionaire who meets billionaire. They have joined to tackle an issue of the shrinking middle class. See chapter 27, “Why do you recommend Multi Level Marketing?” Robert believes that people who want to become entrepreneurs will get the training, acquire skills, and the support they need through an MLM. If it was that easy to become an entrepreneur, everyone would be doing it. Robert had to get over his self-doubt, shyness, fear of rejection then learn to be a leader. A true network marketing business is like an upside down pyramid. It is designed to bring you up to the top, not keep you on the bottom. Robert says, “A true network-marketing business does not succeed unless it brings people to the top.”

Please don't confuse MLM with pyramid selling. Pyramid selling schemes involve selling ideas to people, often without having any real products. It will have one person at the top of the pyramid and everyone else stays at the bottom. When people say MLM scam, they really mean pyramid scam.

Advantages for MLM ‘ers are tax breaks, meeting like minded people, it allows you to take your time, and networking companies are patient. You also benefit from the tried and proven systems that are already in place. The costs involved of starting a MLM are far less than trying to build a business on your own or franchising. Sociability is a requirement. You must also be enthusiastic and self-motivated.

The book "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth" by T. Harv Eker mentions network marketing on pages 74, 127-128, and 158. He says you can leverage yourself with a strong down-line. Ask yourself if you have a small mind-set or a large mind-set. Most people play small because they feel small. Egos get in the way. If you want to be rich, you you must get off the me trip and think about how you can add value to other people's lives.

On page 127, Eker talks about the importance of being in business for yourself. Whether it is owning your own business, being a commissioned sales rep or in a contract position, or involved in a network marketing company. He says incomes in the range of $20,000 to $50,000 a month are not uncommon. On page 158 he emphasizes the importance of creating passive income and how most of us have been conditioned to generate a working income only. We have been programmed NOT to earn passive income. Hey, maybe it would be a blessing in disguise.

I have been downsized and/or outsourced 3 times in the last 8 years! The building of the first company has been imploded and it sits as a pile of rubble today. The Mexican facility was shut down. Productions are now located in Thailand. Luckily, I saw the writing on the wall and jumped ship six months before they closed the Chandler, AZ facility.

The 2nd company I worked for was a successful family business. They were bought out for a price they couldn’t refuse. 40% of the staff were let go at that time and more were laid off later.

My last company downsized and moved to Illinois. Hey, at least it is still in the good ol’ USA.

My 8, almost 9 year story unfortunately, is not so atypical.

Multi level marketing could be a solution for many people out there. Whether they suffer a job loss, tired of commuting long hours, wish for more flexibility, or work out of the home.

So the WAHM (working at home mothers) can start a MLM home based business and find huge MLM success, too! Let's make this the debt free solution.
