Notes From a Dr OZ Show...

Here is a story about my run in with a cubital tunnel syndrome and post op pictures. This serious condition which if left untreated, can result in deformed fingers and hands ....

He mentioned a plant called andrographis and we should all have a supply just in case! Another name for this plant is Indian Echinacea. They use the underground stem and leaf. Interesting. Here is a link:

Another Dr. Oz show Re: Antioxidants and they are found in blueberries. You should select fruits and vegetables with bright and deep colors. The colors are an indicator of nutrient rich fruits and vegetables. Broccoli is loaded with
antioxidants
and beneficial for thyroid function. Broccoli has a specific chemical that protects the body against cancer. Tomatoes contain lycopine which is good for the heart.
Acai is a fruit from the Brazilian rain forest that pack twice the punch for antioxidants as blueberries! These berries are easier to find in the states now. Word is out!
Muscadine grape juice is a good source of antioxidants as well. The grapes build up a resistance to harsh weather and this resistance is passed down to you in the form of polyphenols.
Red wine can prevent your body from aging as well. 80% of the benefit comes from the alcohol and 20% from the resveratrol, which is another antioxidant.
Cinnamon can lower cholesterol.
Ginger reduces risk of cancer, decreases blood pressure, and reduces pain of arthritis.
Paprika and Cayenne pepper improves circulation and reduces high blood pressure.
Rosemary can make you smarter and is recognized for its alleged ability to strengthen the brain and memory. The dried form is ok too.
Fiber is an important aid in elimination. Go for steel cut oatmeal is a great source. The longer it takes to cook it the better. He also said taking fiber supplements containing psyllium is OK.
Fiber supplements - 'cause eating psyllium sounds nasty!
Toss the white rice, opt for the brown Rice – Jerusalem artichoke pasta provides high fiber, too! When buying bread go for the 100% whole grain instead of whole wheat.
Beano is a good product to use stir into beans before eating. It aids in digestion and cuts down on the gas problem.
Chia are whole grain seeds, full of fiber, calcium, and magnesium. You can use these in cupcakes!
Omega 3 can be found in flaxseeds. Be sure and grind them up first before adding to foods! Walnuts are a good source of Omega 3 as are fish. The fish get Omega when they feed on spirulina algae. You can also make guacamole from this algae! You can get DHA omega in capsule form. These are much smaller than the flaxseed oil capsules.
Before frying foods in olive oil, toss the veggies with olive oil first, then fry them. This prevents some of the oxidation of this delicate oil.
Look at your waist measurement more than your weight measurement. Your waist measurement should be less than your height divided by 2. If you are 70 inches tall, your waist measurement should be less than 35 inches. It is possible to gain muscle weight and also lose inches around the waist. This is a good thing!
The ideal heart rate is: 220 minus your age times 80. Get the heart rate up 3 times a week.
You should strength train at least 30 minutes a week. Strengthen the core muscles first, before you do pull ups. You should also practice yoga to enhance your flexibility. Yoga is also good for the mind. Some meditations require making a Yummmm, or similar sound. These vibrations are good for the body.
Sleep: 7-8 hours every night.
Sex: 2-3 times a week. This creates more oxitosin, which is a hormone in women that creates a feeling of a loving bond and well being. Sex creates more testosterone in men.
Vitamins you should add to your diet:
Multi Vitamins- a note to pre-menopausal women, you need your iron.
Men and post menopausal women, no more than 2500 iu vitamin A. Iron is not necessary for this group of people.
Vitamin D – 1000 IU – More than 50% of people are deficient in this vitamin. Vitamin D prevents cancer, reduces heart problems, and reduces infections. The deficiency of vitamin D is linked to MS. This video shows the importance of calcium as an
important building block with vitamin D
Calcium supplementation is important too, says Dr. Oz. Just remember to take calcium with magnesium for better absorption and to avoid constipation. In another show, Dr. Oz displayed 6 1/2 pounds of fat on a small table. He said a diet high in calcium helps the body push out the extra fat. You will lose 100% of fat that goes through your intestines, or double the fat excretion. The calcium meets up with the fat and forms a soap. This will excrete rather than reabsorb in your intestinal track. The 6 1/2 fat represents what your body can get rid of by the end of a year. The average American gets 250 milligrams calcium a day. We really need 1200 milligrams a day.
Most people over 40 should take 2 baby aspirin a day. This practice will help ward away wrinkles. It is also an anti-inflammatory.
Having a passion in life has a positive affect on your real age by 8 years. It keeps your mind young.
White tea hasn’t been dried at all. The leaves have been steamed. This preserves the medicinal benefits. These contain a small amount of caffeine, too.
